Secure Payment
Our website uses 3D Secure Payment and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology to encrypt your personal and credit card details before transmission over the Internet. This technology is secure irrespective of which type of browser you are using, although for maximum security we do recommend that you keep your computer, anti-virus and browser software up to date.
The checkout process will attempt to secure authorisation of your credit card transaction immediately. It will then confirm verification of sufficient funds, after which it will process your order and delivery instructions. IT Exec treats all personal information as strictly confidential and shall not make such information available to third parties.
This site may contain links to other websites, however, IT Exec is not responsible for the content, privacy or security practices of these sites.
What is 3D Secure?
Visa and MasterCard facilitate the 3 Domain Security (3D Secure) service to protect card owners from unauthorised online transactions. Each credit card purchase requires that the customer type in a One-Time Pin (OTP) that is sent to their cell phone to verify the purchase. When the issuing bank approves a 3D Secure Payment, the purchaser may not charge back or reverse the payment, which in turn protects the vendor.
How do I Register for 3D Secure?
Activate 3D Secure Payments with ABSA, FNB, Standard Bank and Nedbank cards. The registration process may vary depending on the bank you use, but is a once-off process. Please review your bank’s website for more details:
Standard Bank: https://www.standardbank.co.za (0861) 201 311
Nedbank: https://www.nedbank.co.za (011) 710 4710
FNB: https://www.fnb.co.za/ (011) 369 2999
ABSA: https://www.absa.co.za (012) 317 3344
The MasterCard product is “SecureCode”, and the Visa product is “Verified by Visa”.
Is 3D Secure Required for all Payments?
Yes. The issuing bank will require the cardholder to authenticate a 3D Secure Payment using a One-Time Pin (OTP). To make an online card payment with IT Exec (which is 3D Secure compliant), you must first register with your bank to activate this service on your card (see above for more detail). Registration is a once-off process that takes place in the secure environment of your bank.
How Does 3D Secure Payment Work?
You enter your card details when making a payment, and the payment process will divert you to the bank that issued the card to authenticate yourself as the cardholder, proving that you are entitled to use the card.
‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘SecureCode’ authenticates the cardholder by asking for a One-Time Pin (OTP) that the bank sends to the authorised contact as per the cardholder’s settings at the applicable bank (i.e. via SMS or email). If the issuing bank is satisfied with the unique pin, it sends an authentication receipt to the merchant bank along with the authorisation request, allowing the transaction to continue. If the card’s issuing bank rejects the OTP, the cardholder will need to contact their bank directly.
The 3D Secure Payment Process
IT Exec uses Virtual Card Services (VCS) as an online credit card vendor. VCS are 3D Secure compliant and are also the first South African payment gateway to be certified by both MasterCard and Visa for 3D-Secure transactions through First National Bank, Standard Bank and ABSA.
‘3D-Secure’ refers to three parties involved in online payment security, they are:
- The Merchant’s bank (in this case, IT Exec).
- The Card Association’s financial networks which are MasterCard and Visa.
- The Issuing or Cardholder’s bank.
